On being a librarian

I'm a librarian. A medical librarian to be exact. That means I'm a librarian just like any other except instead of maniac children or homeless people or clueless college students, my clientele are doctors and nurses. Trust me when I say there's not always a big difference. Physicians can act a lot like children when you don't have exactly what they want. They act a lot like homeless people when they shack up in the library, especially during their research month. And yes, often times they are clueless too.

I love what I do. I love that I'm helping people. "People" encompasses quite a bit to me, too. Physicians, nurses, patients, administrators, students, and so on. They're the ones that I help. Several years ago I wasn't so sure that I loved my career. Don't get me wrong, I never doubted my love for being a librarian. I just wasn't sure that I loved working in medicine. Turns out after I tried something else (law) I realized just how well suited for medicine I really was.

My job is super cool, the people I work with are super cool, and there's never a day that I'm not challenged. All of that adds up to me being in a very good place and I hope to remain so for a very long time.
