My (almost) final comments on the election

I'll preface this by saying that there's nothing more dear to me than the First Amendment. Love it as I may, I'm nearly ready to choke some gross abusers. What's worse is that I know my annoyance will continue even after the election.

...
I am SO amazingly tired of getting emails trashing one of the candidates, usually Obama. I've made no secret of the fact that Obama isn't my first (or second, maybe not even third) choice for President, but DAMN! the trash needs to stop! The general ignorance of people who have access to my email address is amazing. (Normally I'd say "And these people vote!" but somehow that seems too obvious here.) I've received them all. Obama's a Muslim (even a Muslin once or twice...). Obama's unpatriotic. Obama won't say The Pledge. Obama is black (gasp!). Obama eats puppies. Ok, I'm kidding on that last one but seriously, I wouldn't even blink if I actually got it at some point. I've received a fair number trashing McCain too, though far less. I guess old white guys are just plain boring.

Assuming Obama wins the trashing won't die down. I know there will still be horrible things said about him no matter what he does (short of walking on water, and still maybe even then because the concept of a non-caucasian being able to do things like that just doesn't er, um, float).

Here's what it comes down to, folks: I DON'T CARE. I respect everyone's right to have their own opinions, and their right to vote for the candidate of their choice. I don't respect being disrespected by those same people for having my own opinions.

And if the race for the White House 2012 begins on November 5th, I just may up and move to a deserted island in the South Pacific.
